Mick Shots: Just Trying To Clarify Things

* So Pacman needed a second chance, right, or was that a third or fourth? Now, in light of what has just been revealed, true or not, just having your name associated with something as sordid as that mess in Atlanta, would anyone be good with a fifth chance for the poor guy who just happens to land in these deals through no fault of his own?
* Saw this little item on Mike Shanahan. He had three years left on his contract, meaning Denver owner Pat Bowlen owes him $20 million. How quickly would you go back to work, considering how hard and how time consuming a head coaching is?
* All this Jason Garrett bashing is rather amusing to me. In the 13 games Tony Romo started, the Cowboys averaged nearly 25 points a game. Only three times did the Cowboys score fewer than 20 points in Romo’s 13 starts, and in one of those, a 14-10 victory at Washington, Romo was playing his first game back with a splint on his fractured little finger in extremely windy conditions. In another, the 20-13 loss to Pittsburgh, what was it, like a 6-degree wind chill with the wind blowing 20 mph? Neither offense moved the ball much. I’ll give you Philly, but that was a team-wide disaster, although the first time around the Cowboys put 41 on the NFC title-game bound Eagles. So that Garrett reportedly might be the “mystery candidate” in St. Louis should not be surprising. Plus, remember Rams general manager Billy Devaney, helping to head up the search effort, liked Garrett last year when he was part of the effort to hire a head coach in Atlanta where the Falcons reportedly offered him the job. Stay tuned.
* And I’m not buying the NFL’s excuse for missing the delay of game call on Baltimore. The reason the back judge makes the call is that he’s so far back and in the middle of the field he’s able to see the clock and the quarterback without having to look down completely. That crew just blew that one. And if looking down is a problem, give the guy a synchronized watch that’s on vibrate. Please.
