This Is Why You Don't Sign Idiots
The email just came flying into my inbox from your Dallas Cowboys, all short and to the point and distractionary.
"COWBOYS ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF ADAM JONES"
Or, in other words, what they probably wanted to write: Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Pacman. We only wish we did not have to wait until Feb. 9 to kick your sorry butt to the curb.
Owner Jones will get plenty of "wtgs" for this and praise for doing the right thing, just do not expect one from me. I am not sure any credit is due for cleaning up a mess of his own making. He was warned by everybody -- from his coaches to the commish himself -- not to sign this clown. He signed him anyway. He was begged by people inside his organization not to bring him back after his Joule brouhaha. He did anyway.
Some will argue (ahem, Mr. Randy) Pacman was worth the risk. He didn't really cost anything.
And therein lies what I believe to be one of the biggest problemswith this Cowboys team, nobody seems to think locker room chemistry and accountability is anything. The truth is, while Pacman did not cost them a draft pick, he ended up making them pay in far bigger ways. A lot of players did not like bringing in such an untrustworthy guy to the team. Even more guys did not like how lightly Pacman took double-secret probation (and in effecthis responsibility to team and teammates) as evidenced by him allowing that Joule incident to go down. And almost everybody balked at how the Cowboys not only bringing him back after his four-game suspension but plopping him right back into the starting lineup and basically flipping the bird to Orlando Scandrick who had been really good in his absence.
Y'all know I blame Coach Cupcake for just about everything but this fiasco was all Jerry. He just can not help himself. He can not say no to the "sexy" sign, no matter how troubled, no matter what the impact on everybody else.
What happened this season is why you don't sign idiots.
And why I do not give Jerry much credit for finally cleaning up a mess of his own making.
ETA: As LBOHer Cody noted below, this smelled fishy. And as usually happens with this Cowboys, what smells usually stinks. Or in this case shoots. Funny how the timing of the Cowboys doing the right thing syncs up with ESPN seeking comment for this brouhaha involving Pacman. So please, spare me the he's-a-misunderstood-kid crap. As Parcells always said, he may not be in the trouble but he always seems to be around it.
As always, your thoughts are welcome.
