Sherman's Name Surfaces In Rams' Search Posted by rphillips at 1/1/2009 6:52 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com
Cowboys wide receivers coach Ray Sherman is among several NFL assistants being mentioned as potential candidates for the St. Louis Rams' head coaching vacancy.
The Rams can make a formal request to speak to Sherman, but the Cowboys are required to grant permission since it's a head coaching opportunity.
The Detroit Lions also have been granted permission to speak with Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett about their opening.
Sherman, a 21-year NFL assistant, has a tremendous reputation for working with players and has developed a strong relationship with Terrell Owens and the Cowboys' receivers since 2007. He also has been an offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh and Minnesota.
Packers assistant head coach-linebackers coach Winston Moss is expected to interview with the Rams, and ESPN reports Dolphins defensive coordinator and former Cowboys assistant Todd Bowles also is a candidate. Rams interim head coach Jim Haslett, whose contract expires in February, is considered a finalist for the job.
