IRVING – It took three weeks longer than anticipated, but on Wednesday the Cowboys signed right tackle Marc Colombo to a four-year contract worth $22 million, which includes up to $11.5 million guaranteed.
Colombo was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March, but he is now signed through 2012.
"I just love being a Dallas Cowboy," Colombo said. "I love everything about it. I definitely didn't want to leave my offensive line. I'd die for those guys. The thought of going to some other team and another line wasn't an option for me. I'm glad the Cowboys stepped up to the plate. I thank them very much."
Colombo has started 47 straight games at right tackle for the Cowboys, turning into one of the franchise's best finds. A first-round pick by Chicago in 2002, Colombo was released in 2005 after missing most of two seasons with a serious knee injury.
Given an off-season to build up strength in his legs, Colombo won the starting job in 2006 and has not looked back.
