Colombo, Watkins Returns Possible Next Week Posted by rphillips at 12/23/2009 6:03 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com
Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips hasn't ruled out starting right tackle Marc Colombo (ankle/leg) or safety Pat Watkins (knee) for the Jan. 3 finale against the Eagles.
"It's going to be close," Phillips said.
Colombo hasn't practiced since fracturing his fibula and undergoing surgery last month to repair damaged ankle ligaments. Watkins, the Cowboys' second-leading special teams tackler (18), hasn't practiced in two weeks but said his sprained PCL is feeling much better.
The Cowboys replenished their safety depth when starter Ken Hamlin returned from a high ankle sprain last week. He has had full participation in practice.
At right tackle, Phillips said Colombo's replacement, Doug Free, graded out best among the five starting linemen against the Saints.

I'm a little excited about prospects involving Free and Brewster on the outside. With Flo and Colombo, the position looks a ton stronger now.
