No reason to worry - less is more in 09
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know there alot of fans that are worried about our offense in 09. They wonder who is going to score all those touchdowns in place of TO. If you look closer to the numbers you will see that even though he scored 38 touchdowns the past 3 years, it took alot of work to get him there. It took alot of dropped passes, alot of Tony Romo's energy, it sapped alot of his energy too. It finally took it's toll last year. While I dont necessarily disagree with TO, I disagree with how he went about things. Thats a whole nother story. We wont cover that here. We definitely should have went to a partial west coast offense to help him get the ball in his hands.
Back to our team as it stands now. The reason I think that we will succeed next year is because we have so many hybrids and they will be showcased in 09. Jason Garrett is going to put felix in the slot as well as getting him the ball on running downs. Jason is going to be able to accentuate the positive in all of his players. Our offense had grown stagnant due to having to throw the ball to TO so much. As a matter of fact only 8 more receivers had the ball thrown to them more last year. He was second in the league in dropped passes and there were alot of balls he just ran the wrong route on that werent even close to him.
Now we will be able to spread the ball around and take advantage of Martellius Bennett who will be able to pull linebackers into the slot. He will abuse them. We will run alot of plays with him and Witten on the field at the same time. There will probably be some plays with felix, bennett and witten in the game at the same time line up as receivers and or tight ends. This will cause major problems for teams. Expect Felix and Bennett to be showcased next year.
Marion the hybrid. With Marion running the ball as teams as wore down he is going to battleram them. Kind of like how the old fullbacks used to do back in the day. They probably will line him up again at FB at times with felix or choice in the backfield. They sure will take advantage of all mismatches in 09. We will be able to now. TO is gone and so is attitude.
Romo the hybrid. I think you will see the biggest change with Romo next year. I remember someone saying at midseason that if you knew what was wrong with Romo you would be shocked. Something of that nature and it came from a player. Greg Ellis I think. I believe it was the TO thing that had not gotten out yet. We probably all can agree on that. Romo stopped having fun last year and it showed. I think next year he gets back to the Romo of old, the farvesque like happy go lucky guy that plays the game the way it should be played. I hope he limits his gunslinger ways though. I think he will scramble more next year, let's face it when he does that he opens up another dimension for us. This is what it will all be about in 09 on offense. Open up more dimensions for teams to worry about. If teams have to worry about Romo scrambling, where Bennett and Jones are going to lineup and how to handle Barber at the end of games when they are beat tired from having to run after Jones all game, its going to be a good year. And I havent even mentioned thats it going to be hard for them to stop Roy Williams who catches everything in sight, along with witten. There will be so much attention to all the other guys that Crayton may even catch some crucial balls in the slot along with austin getting the deep ball. The key to it all will be taking advantage of the mismatches and I think we have the players to do that, that and staying healthy. So I am not worried about TO being gone, not in the least. We didnt use him right when he was here so what does it matter. It would have been just as bad going forward. This is our best chance to win.
