Mailbag: Better Work Habits For Next Season?

(Editor's Note: Each day we will take the 2 best questions for our staff writers to answer from the Mailbag. "Click here" to email questions now.)
MICHAEL LEEK, GUILFORD, CT: We have already heard about the possibility of Dan Reeves or Mike Shanahan coming in, but what about Jon Gruden? He has that no nonsense attitude I believe this team needs.
Nick: Well, he's looking to be a head coach again and that's not going to happen for the Cowboys this year. Remember, Dan Reeves is going to be a consultant.
Rob: In what capacity? Consultant? Sorry, can't see that. Gruden wants to be a head coach again somewhere, and as far as I know, he doesn't have any ties to Wade Phillips like Reeves does.
Josh: At this point all Gruden could do is get in the way. Maybe if Jason Garrett had left for St. Louis a couple weeks ago it might be worth bringing Gruden in to run the offense, but now that we know Garrett and Wade Phillips are going to be staying, there's no room for Gruden. But I'll admit, when it appeared Garrett was going to join the Rams, I was wondering whether the Cowboys could make the West Coast Offense work under Gruden.
RUBEN NUNEZ, WEST SACRAMENTO, CA: I've heard several times that Roy E. Williams has bad work habits, and we all know how great a worker Terrell Owens is in the off-season. Do you know if there is any chance T.O. will be working with Roy to polish his skills and conditioning? Roy never had Jerry Rice to help him, he was always the guy in Detroit.
Nick: Well, there's two sides to that. Terrell Owens is a great worker, but he's usually not here in Dallas. Roy Williams admits that he needs to be here working with the coaches, Tony Romo and other receivers trying to get a better timing down with this offense. The Cowboys have good strength coaches. Roy can work out here and learn the system together by being here. It probably wouldn't hurt T.O. if he spent most of the off-season here as well.
Rob: That's one area in which Owens gets a lot of credit from current and former teammates -- he's willing to help fellow receivers improve their technique and conditioning. Not sure about Williams having bad practice habits -- that's an easy label to give him since he had minimal impact in 10 games here -- but he and Owens have seemed to become close.
Josh: Can't say I've heard all those same things about Williams, but as for T.O. helping him along, I wouldn't be so gung-ho about it if I were you. Williams doesn't need to work with Owens, he needs to work with Tony Romo. And I know Romo and Williams will be here in March when the Cowboys start their conditioning program - that's good, they need to play catch. I just don't know what beach T.O. will be running on at that time, but it would help him to be here too.
