Can Tony Romo be a leader?

My buddy Cedric Golden of the Austin American-Statesman certainly doesn't think so. Here's the premise of his column:
Romo's not a leader. Never has been. Never will be.
In the NFL, you're judged on your actions, not your words, and Romo's actions the last two seasons suggest he isn't the type capable of putting a team on his back and carrying it to a Super Bowl.
And the Manning brothers' actions during their early seasons as a starter suggested they weren't capable of putting a team on their back and carrying it to a Super Bowl. Hey, who won the last two Super Bowls again?
We should also rewind to Romo's first couple of months as a starting quarterback. Everybody was in awe of this undrafted dude's moxie. The Cowboys rallied around the kid. Whatever it is, Romo had it.
So Romo has been a leader. The question: Can he become a leader again, after a lot of things have gone wrong?
He'll have to earn back the respect of some teammates, which might be easier if Jerry Jones waves good-bye to a certain influential receiver. It might be a good idea to address his teammates in a let's-get-it-all-out-there session this spring. And he really needs to stop spewing all the philosophical, pseudo-intellectual mumbo jumbo that comes out of his mouth.
I can't guarantee that Romo is the guy who will lead the Cowboys to their sixth Super Bowl title. I just know that, after less than three roller-coaster seasons as a starter, it's way too soon to rule him out.
