Cowboys' First Pick Is No. 51 Overall Posted by jellis at 12/30/2008 4:52 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com
The Cowboys traded their first-round pick in the 2009 draft to Detroit in the deal for Roy Williams, meaning their first selection in April will be the 19th pick in the second round, No. 51 overall.
The Cowboys were one of five teams to go 9-7 in 2008. To determine draft order the NFL breaks ties by each team's strength of schedule. The Cowboys' 2008 opponents were a combined 126-127-3, a winning percentage of .498.
In ties that involve three or more clubs, the club at the top of a tied segment in a given round will move to the bottom of the segment for the next round, while all other clubs in the segment move up one position. This rotation continues throughout the draft. The Cowboys have picked No. 51 only once in their history, grabbing cornerback Isaac Thomas out of Bishop in 1971.
The draft's first and second round are scheduled for Saturday, April 25, with rounds 3-7 following on Sunday.
