It was one of the Cowboys' finest seasons.
They tied a franchise record with 13 wins to earn home-field advantage in the playoffs. They had an NFL-record 13 players in the Pro Bowl. They won their first NFC East title since 1998. Tony Romo set a franchise record with 36 touchdown passes.

But it all ended Jan. 13 with a 21-17 loss to the New York Giants when R.W. McQuarters intercepted a Romo pass in the end zone with nine seconds to play, leaving Texas Stadium silent except for the small crowd of Giants' fans near the opposing team's tunnel.
"We have a special team," Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman said after the game, "but someone else has a more special team."
Making it worse for the Cowboys – if that was possible – was seeing the Giants, whom they had swept during the regular season, go on to win the Super Bowl by beating undefeated New England three weeks later.
Instead of joining the storied teams in franchise history that played in Super Bowls, these Cowboys owned their own piece of inglorious history: They became the first No. 1 seed in the NFC to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs since postseason expansion in 1990.
It also extended the organization's playoff-win drought to 12 seasons.
