* Cowboys owner Jerry Jones must have felt like death warmed over when he left Texas Stadium this past Saturday night, after his club could not quite make a comeback in the final game to be played at the 37-year-old stadium, losing to Baltimore, 33-24. And he admitted as much on Friday out at practice, saying when asked if he thought the season was over, “Absolutely. I saw the Grim Reaper coming out the door, and boy I was just so elated when San Diego won (beating Tampa Bay). I really did think that it would serve as a lift. And I think it did lift us. Yes, I thought when we left the stadium late at night I was pretty down and out.” But Tampa Bay losing placed the Cowboys’ fate in their own hands once again, knowing if they beat Philly they qualify for the NFC playoffs. What more could you ask for?
* Don’t underestimate this Philadelphia defense, ranked No. 3 overall, because since losing 36-7 at Baltimore, the Eagles have given up no more than 14 points in three of the next four games. And the only one they gave up more came in a 48-20 victory over Arizona.
* And the score . . . what better theater can you have, win and you’re in the playoffs, lose and you’re out, and since we just sensed all along this season was heading to such a conclusion in Philly and since we thought at season’s beginning the Cowboys were a playoff team, let’s go Cowboys 23, Eagles 17, for the 10th victory, leaving the Cowboys two and maybe just one victory short of what most thought they would get this season.
