HERE ARE TEN WAYS TO INSULT PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD
You might know that on Sunday, an angry Iraqi reporter threw his shoes at PRESIDENT BUSH, which . . . in Iraqi culture . . . is just about the worst thing you can do to someone.
Anyway, that got us thinking . . . and we've compiled a list of TEN other ways to insult people around the world.
#1.) In Japan, it's an insult if you toss someone's business card onto your desk, or shove it into your back pocket, without even looking at it.
#2.) If you curl your forefinger at someone in the Philippines, you're calling them a dog. The insult is punishable by arrest . . . and even breaking the finger that was used to make the gesture.
#3.) In India and Africa, it's offensive to eat with your left hand . . . because your left hand is only supposed to be used to clean your backside.
#4.) Looking at the floor while drinking a toast is considered a serious sleight in Scandinavia.
#5.) Using a reusable cloth handkerchief and NOT throwing it away is considered disgusting and insulting to those around you in Japan.
#6.) Smiling at a stranger in Korea is considered an indication that you think they're stupid.
#7.) Using your thumb and forefinger to make an "O" . . . which is the sign for "OK" here in the States . . . is an insult with sexual connotations in Russia.
#8.) In Buddhist countries, the most offensive thing you can do to another person is to pat them on the head.
#9.) In Argentina, it's insulting to show up right on time for a dinner date. You can show up early or late, but showing up exactly when you were supposed to is considered a sign of greed.
#10.) In North America, it's insulting to mistake a Canadian for an American . . . or an American for a Canadian. (Daily Mirror)
