I'll start this out by saying thank God for Zack Thomas and follow up with I still am not impressed with Brady James. The guy gets lost, bites on fakes, and just isn't a enforcer style lb that we need to punish teams who run inside. For now our only other real options are burnette and carpenter neither of which has been able to get any playing time in front of James. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tank has been solid but not spectacular, and Ratliff has been a play maker but is more speed vs a plugger who can keep olineman off the linebackers. Ideally we need a plugger and bring Ratliff in on passing plays, and times we need a change of pace NT. Tank isn't a natural NT and is growing into the mold. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next off season we need to take a serious look at filling islb, and possibly NT. Absolutely. We need a Jon Beason, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, type of physical presence in the middle, cause Brady James just isnt getting it done. Servicable yes, but not the player we need to stuff it up inside. Zach is a stop gap for the obvious weakness in the middle, atleast Jerry and Co. were able to recognize the need in the offseason. Whats up Carp?

I wouldn't jump off the defense just yet. The team has been pretty solid against the run through most of the season. This team is affected, in my view, as much by field position and game score as the opposition that it is playing. The past three games, the special teams have put them at tremendous field position disadvantages and made at least a field goal the best that this unit could come off with. Throw in a pair of costly turnovers for these same games, and the team almost has to play a very conservative game. This makes things a lot tougher on the defense. Let the team build up some confidence and stability over a two to three game stretch, and look at how team play changes. First half lack of discipline have killed the Cowboys. Throw in teams that have THEIR confidence boosted by a couple of cheap scores, and see how much tougher they play also. The Dallas big players are the ones that get worn down in that progression, instead of what should be the other way around, and Dallas dictating game flow and types of play....
Now, throw in the necessity of a still challenged Adam Jones, a much slower and who I would want to soon be a safety, Anthony Henry, and two rookies at cornerback, and that part of the defense is NOT a dominating aspect right now. The front actually has kept the Red Zone very tough, but they can only do so much with the secondary still an unsettled zone behind them.

It has been 7 years and we still need pieces for it. He have the one thing that we where missing in the 4-3, pass rushing defensive ends, I'm ready to scrap the 3-4 and switch to the 4-3 . Prossman

I feel the same way Admin , but the backers being drafted as pass rushers and the 3/4 de's really dt's , a big time 'two steps back' at this stage of the franchise's personnel cycle would be intolerable .

The Core of my frustraition comes from wanting a coaching staff that can get more out of their players than is there vs always having to add talent. This is one of the most talented cowboy team ever top to bottom, but for some reason they don't play to their potential. Its like we have to wait for our players to mature and figure it out, vs our coaching staff leading the team. I sit here thinking , what the heck does jerry have to do, talent wise to put this thing over he top. What , do we have to have probowlers at every position? What would a coach like Bill cower, who excelled in a organization that wouldn't keep talent do with this team? Scary! Prossman

I have felt, since the last Aikman entrance into the playoffs that the Dallas defense just lacked guts...and I still have that feeling. Too sophisticated, and not enough just tough play. They give away all that the offense does...and now, throw the special team coverage teams onto the escallation of losing points, field position, and time with the ball.

And that's not even counting injuries , plus the team takes on the personality of the coach and Phillips is no Parcells. If these outside rushers don't pick it up a notch , the inside lb's will have to get involved leaving the hook zones wide open .

Pre- Roy Williams signing, I was concerned as well about the D. Post- Roy Williams signing, Im feeling better and better every day. Its amazing how much better a D can play when ahead by atleast 14 pts.

You have a valid point there , but that may not be the case this Sunday . I don't know if Johnson can bring his A-game the first time out of the chute. I will be paying keen attention to Holt and Avery going deep and if the rams max protect ; also if Jackson stretches the coverage on swings. Pace was held out of practice this week , that may be a weakness to exploit.

The rams offense has scored 4 tds in 5 games I believe. Thier qb hasn't thrown for over 200 yds in a game yet. We will get a taste of what roy williams brings to the table this week. The question is will his precence change the way team approach Dallas offense? If defenses have to pull the 8th man out of the box to cover for roy, all hell will break lose in our favor. It will be fun to see. Prossman
