Sterling Sharpe, co-host of the NFL Network's Playbook show, answered your questions on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Sharpe, a five-time Pro Bowl selection in seven seasons as an NFL receiver, teams with Brian Baldinger to provide an in-depth look at each week's key matchups through the exclusive use of the same video coaches and players use to prepare game plans.
NFC Playbook airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET and AFC Playbook airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com03:00 PM
I'm ready ready to roll. Time for the questions.
Charlie Medlin, Newton, NC 03:06 PM ET
Sterling, what are the chances that Carolina can run the table and get home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
If they run the table, they'll get home field, because they'll have beaten the Giants. I think their chances are really good.
Eric, Mo 03:07 PM ET
Who do you predict to win the AFC? I know I pick the Colts, but was wondering about you.....
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
The Colts are going to the Super Bowl!!?? You should send me whatever you're on ... the Colts are not going to the Super Bowl.
If you're making me pick right now ... I'm going to say the Miami Dolphins. I have history that says anything can happen. I'm taking Miami right now.
Matt, Albany, NY 03:09 PM ET
Mr. Sharpe... The man, the legend... Do you think the Giants can bounce back from a bad game and beat the Cowboys?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Hey Matt. You obviously thought that Philly didn't get paid last week.
To answer your question, yes. But don't call it a bounce back. Everyone lays an egg at somepoint during the season. Even the Lions will win a game. That was the Giants' egg game for the season.
I think the Giants will win.
cdetore, New Jersey 03:11 PM ET
Who do you think will be in the Superbowl? I'm thinking Giants-Steelers. That would be a show.
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I've already got the Dolphins out there. I think the Dolphins-Giants would be a great show. I think the Ravens-Giants would be a great show. I'm not above that. The last Tampa Super Bowl was the Giants-Ravens, and history has a funny way of repeating itself.
Why can't Miami do it? Once you get in, all you have to do is keep winning.
Sean, Pittsburgh PA 03:13 PM ET
How does the Steelers defense compare to the 2000 Ravens defense?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
It's not as dominant. I'm saying in all phases - turnovers, stopping the run, against the pass.
That football team was known for defense. They made two plays on offense in the playoffs and got there. When you score seven points and the game is over, that's pretty good defense.
Daniel, Toronto, Canada 03:15 PM ET
Absolutely love watching playbook. Best show on TV. Do you think the Ravens can be a dangerous playoff team (assumming they make it) and why? Can they beat the Steelers this weekend?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Thanks Daniel. The way the Ravens are playing on offense, that leads me to believing they can beat the Steelers. It's about the confidence in Flacco and his confidence.
With that defense, they're dangerous in the playoffs. Of course. With the defenses in Miami and Baltimore, who is going to want to play them in the playoffs?
Mike, Colorado 03:16 PM ET
Are the Jets worth believing in?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Wow, that's a good question. They are definitely making it hard to believe in them. They're making it hard.
Steven, Bangor, ME 03:17 PM ET
Mr. Sharpe, Do you believe that the Steelers will be able to make it deep in the playoffs on their D alone? Or will they have to develop their offense to keep their championship hopes alive?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Defensively, the beat the Cowboys on Sunday. When it comes to the playoffs, the Ravens have done it with defense alone. Why can't the Steelers?
Rod Ablowitz, Cave Jct 03:19 PM ET
Why is there hardly any comments or stories about the AZ Cardinals considering that they have come such a long way to be where they are? It seems like people are scared to catch a virus if they talk about the Cardinals!
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
What would you like for us to say? Based on all the teams who will make the playoffs, they're one-dimensional and can't run the ball? Even the '99 Rams threw the ball all over the field, but they still ran Marshall Faulk ... I think he was pretty decent.
Against all the teams that we thought they would lose against, they did lose against! Who did the Cardinals lose to? They lost to the Redskins, the Jets, the beat Dallas, they lost to Philly, the lost to the Giants, they lost to Carolina ... you know? We'll learn a lot about them against the Vikings. I think we talk about them enough.
Raul, Mexico 03:22 PM ET
Sterling, what about the Titans? after all they have the best record in the league and they lay their egg in week 11...didn't they?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
That's a good point Raul. I have to agree with you on that. I forgot about Tennessee. Right now, I'm still picking the Dolphins.
Vance, Greensboro, NC 03:23 PM ET
I just wanted to say that Im getting tired of people saying that they don't trust Delhomme down the stretch. The man is stil a Super Bowl QB. Even though he didn't win it, he didn't lose it either (botched kickoff). He is great in the clutch, and gets the W when the Panthers need it. 18 4th Quarter/ OT comebacks. Who cares if he throws interceptions if they keep winning.
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I saw the two INTs he threw on Monday Night. I'm along with the people who don't trust him. I don't trust him either. I like him, but I don't trust him.
Donovan, Tulsa 03:24 PM ET
I want what you're on if you think Miami is going to the Super Bowl - Don't you think that there is a good chance that they dont make the playoffs at all?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Aren't they tied with the Patriots, or do you think they will just get in? Aren't they tied with the Jets, or do you think they will just get in? Right now, they look just as good to me as everyone but Pittsburgh and Tennessee. They can run the ball, that's for sure.
Gene, Las Vegas,Nv 03:26 PM ET
What is your take on Thursday's game Bears vs. Saints?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I'm guessing the whether will be cold. I like that the Saints are trying to find a way to run the ball better. If Minnesota can throw the ball on Chicago, then why not New Orleans? I'm going with the Saints.
Jim, Grand Rapids MI 03:27 PM ET
Sterling Are the Lions the worst team ever?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Well, Jim, worst team EVER? Wow... With Calvin Johnson and his TDs and all these different QBs, including Daunte Culpepper who was pumping gas and not even playing ... no, they're not the worst team ever.
Rhys, Uk 03:29 PM ET
Should Ed Reed be in the defensive MVP conversation?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I think Ed Reed should be in the NFL MVP conversation.
Joe , B-More 03:29 PM ET
What do you think of Ed Reed`s overall Play this past week
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I thought, and I've said this before, I think Ed Reed finds a way to make more great plays than almost anyone. I'm putting him in the same class as Jerry Rice. He's the Jerry Rice of the defense. He just makes great plays exactly when he's needed to.
Vance, Greensboro, NC 03:30 PM ET
Ok, So say the Panthers run the table and make it to the Super Bowl (w/ Jake under center) and Jake throws a touchdown to ice the game, will you trust him then?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
No. Still won't.
Grady, Lodi Ca, 03:31 PM ET
Mike Singletary said recently that "Vernon Davis is the best blocking tight-end that he has ever seen". First off he has seen alot of great tight-ends during his Hall of Fame career/lifetime. What do you guys think? Is he the best in the NFL today?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I think that's a make-up call for sending that kid to the locker room after he got the job. I don't think anyone who has been around the game for as long as I have or Mike has would say that.
Heck, my brother blocked for a 2,000-yard rusher ... that has to count for something.
I played with Ed West in Green Bay, who was one of the best I ever saw. I don't know if Mike ever saw Ed West.
I don't think Vernon Davis is the best blocking tight end that Mike has ever seen.
Dallas Dean, North Dakota 03:34 PM ET
If you don't trust Delhomme then how in the world could you trust Romo who has never even won a playoff game?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Who said I trust Tony Romo???
chris, indianapolis 03:34 PM ET
The Colts beat the patriots, the steelers, and the ravens. and had the titans beat until the middle of the fourth quarter. they are on a 6 game win streak. Why is there no talk of the colts chances of a super bowl?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Because they will have to beat those same teams again to get to where they want to go. And I don't think that can happen.
Lloyd, colorado 03:35 PM ET
who is the best running bak duo in the league?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I saw the Monday Night game. I've seen what they've done the last two weeks for the Panthers. I like the two guys in Tennessee. I think right now I'd take the two guys on the Titans. I think think those two duos are No. 1 and No. 1A.
Jake, Wisconsin Rapids WI 03:37 PM ET
Sterling who would you rather catch balls from Don Majkowski, Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
That's the whole point. They'd all be throwing it to me, so it wouldn't matter.
Cowboy, Texas 03:38 PM ET
Can the Cowboys make it to the playoffs or should they kiss their season goodbye?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I'm gonna say "kiss it" right now.
Tim, Huntington 03:38 PM ET
Dr. Sharpe, the Steelers O line problems, lack of talent or blocking scheme?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I don't think it's a lack of talent. I don't believe that. I don't think it's a scheme issue, either. They've done things for so long ... sometimes teams just draft people to beat certain teams.
Marc, Atlanta 03:40 PM ET
Is this really Sterling Sharpe? Or is this a joke........How do expect Chad Pennigton & the Dolphins to make it to the Superbowl if Manning & the Colts led by Tony Dungy cannot?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I said that they have just as good as chance as anybody. I said the Dolphins have just as good a chance as anybody. I don't expect the Colts to make it, either. Right now, I'm leaning for the Dolphins.
Lloyd, colorado 03:41 PM ET
who is the best corerback in the league?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Nnamdi Asomugha.
Lloyd, Colorado 03:43 PM ET
Sterling, which quarterback do you trust?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Right now, that's heading into the playoffs ... I trust Joe Flacco.
But this can change in a week.
I bet you guys want me back next week to chat to defend all of this huh?
justin, gaffney, sc 03:44 PM ET
kurt warner...overrated? or under aprreciated?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I don't think either. I think, from Day 1, he's been the leader for the MVP in the NFL. I dont' believe he's overrated or under-appreciated.
Jake Delhomme, Charlotte, NC 03:45 PM ET
Can you give some pointers. Then I can become a better QB.
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Ok, Jake. I can think of three. When you get outside of the pocket in the red zone, don't take sack. Two, you threw two bad INTs in a big, big game. You forced the Panthers to run the ball with those. I don't think they would have ever run the ball that much.
Brandon, Estacada, Oregon 03:47 PM ET
Its my Birthday and I never get threw to you guys, so I figured you could give me my Birthday present in answering, So as a Rams fan, Where do we start and rebuilding and Who do we hire? Thanks!!!
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
All new. I keep Steven Jackson. I think Torry Holt. I think Marc Bulger. Everyone else must go. I would totally start over. I like Jim Haslett, but I don't think he's the guy for the job.
Brandon, if it really is your birthday, Happy Birthday.
Cody, Van Wert, Ohio 03:48 PM ET
Sterling, with the season winding down, who do you think should win the MVP award? I think it should be Adrian Peterson.
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I think right now ... I don't think Kerry Collins gets enough credit. Collins should be in the discussion. But, right now, it's Kurt Warner's to lose.
Slot, Denmark 03:49 PM ET
Will the Falcons make PO?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Yes.
Brian, Ottawa 03:50 PM ET
hi sterling both the jags and packers are struggling who do you think wins this week?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Of course you know I want the Packers to win, but it's definitely a game the Jaguars can win .... I think the Pack will win.
Nick, Albany NY 03:50 PM ET
Its good to see all the Dolphin Support, I feel alone sometimes routing for them up here in NY. My Question is, if the Fins DO make it deep into the playoffs *crosses fingers* Is it possible Pennington will return to be our QB next season? Or was this a 1 season deal for him?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
No, the way Pennington is playing, he'll be there for awhile.
Tony Romo, Dallas TX 03:52 PM ET
What about me? Why dont you trust me? I got your back bro! I'd even change your tire or take you out to a movie!
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
And... you're a heck of a golfer! I like to golf.
I just think you don't get to chose when the big situations show up ... you have to perform on the big stage, Tony. I'm waiting for you to do it on the big stage.
Bill, Atlanta 03:53 PM ET
Sterling, how good is Calvin Johnson and shouldn't he make the Pro Bowl even though he's on the worst team in history?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I think he is the best player that no one talks about or has heard of. I'm going to talk about him on our show this week. I love that he shows up every week. He has nine of their 23 touchdowns. Nine of their 15 passing touchdowns. He's legit.
cdetore, New Jersey 03:55 PM ET
Do you think that the drama surrounding the Giants will actually help propel them to the Superbowl. There just as strong, arguably, but now more of an underdog. That mentality, as we saw last year, went a long way for the G-men. your take.
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I'm going to say this on our show, but I think the ghost of Plaxico Burress is bigger than we give credit for.
The three games that Plax has missed, they struggle to run the ball. They're 2-1 in those games, but they weren't Giant-like wins. The numbers don't lie. I think Plax does more for that offense than anyone lets on. We're going to let the cat out of the bag this week.
Brian, Ottawa 03:59 PM ET
On monday night the bucs defence looked terrible...will they rebound against the strong running game of the falcons?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Yes. They didnt' tackle well against Carolina. I was disappointed in the way they tackled Monday Night. I think they'll tackle better against Atlanta.
Brian, Ottawa 03:59 PM ET
do you think monte kiffin will be with the bucs next season?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Yes.
Brian, Ottawa 04:00 PM ET
what will be the biggest upset this week?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Whooooo! You know what, I'm REALLY tempted to take the Raiders over the Pats. I'm REALLY tempted to do that. But I'm not. But I'm really tempted to take the Bengals over the Skins. But I'm not. I don't know if they get bigger than that.
I think the biggest upset of the week would be if Detroit over Indy. That would be huge wouldn't it? That would be big. I'll go with it. I'll go with it because of Calvin Johnson. Imagine that.
Brian, ottawa 04:02 PM ET
mike smith for coach of the year?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Can I vote for Mike Smith over John Harbaugh? Can I vote for either one of them over Tony Sparano? He's tied for the division lead. I would have to say Sparano, right now, is my coach of the year. Especially if he wins the division, somehow, and gets to the Super Bowl.
tom, los angeles 04:03 PM ET
Do you think San Diego could still win the AFC west
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Nope. Not going to happen.
Tiki Barber, NY, NY 04:04 PM ET
Looks like my master plan to light a fire under the Giants by criticizing them and retiring has worked out even better than I thought. As a fellow expert what do you think Sterling, do they repeat?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Hey Tiki. No....
Joseph, Quebec 04:05 PM ET
Who is playing the best football at the moment?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
That would be the Baltimore Ravens.
Brian, Ottawa 04:06 PM ET
sterling do you see the 49ers being spoilers again this week?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Nope. Not this week. Not at Miami.
JLR, Los Angeles 04:07 PM ET
Why shouldn't Drew Brees get the MVP over Warner - the Saints have 16 player on the IR list, many of whom are starters?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa... I don't want to hear that. Kurt Warner won that division. I don't want to hear that!
Joseph, Quebec 04:08 PM ET
What is the key to the dolphins success?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
They have a simple formula. Their QB will be protected and won't turn it over. They're going to run the ball. I like how they find a different WR every week to get done what they need to get done.
Defensively, they stop the run, they don't get beat deep, they have a disruptive player in Joey Porter and they get off the field on third downs.
Brett, Dallas 04:10 PM ET
So Sterling -- whats Adrian Petersons game going to look like this week going up against a pretty good Cardinal defense? Just wondering what to expect.
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
That's easy. Just hand it to him.
JLR, Los Angeles 04:10 PM ET
Do you agree with the suspensions of the Star Caps players?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Based on the rules and regulations set forth by our commissioner, I say yes.
Matt, NZ 04:11 PM ET
Bill Belichick should be coach of the year! The Patz have been decimated by injuries, yet theyre in the playoff hunt
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I'm glad you don't have a vote.
Peter B, Baltimore 04:12 PM ET
How good do you think Joe Flacco will be over his career?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I don't think Ray Lewis will play for the bulk of that career, but the experience he's getting right now, I think the sky is the limit.
JLR, Los Angeles 04:14 PM ET
How many yards would Reggie Bush rush for in a season behind the Vikings offensive line?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
C'mon JLR ... I don't know. Reggie Bush plays in New Orleans.
Dave, Houston 04:15 PM ET
How much does cold weather affect your ability to catch the ball? You should know, right?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Right. It doesn't, if you can catch. If you can catch, you can catch anywhere.
George, Buffalo, NY 04:16 PM ET
Hey Sterling, there has been alot of talk in the past few weeks about what has gone wrong with the Bills. Ive heard coaching, lack of talent, complacency, play calling, and so on. What do you think is the main problem or problems???
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Hey George. No identity. They have the biggest offensive line, but they don't run downhill and smash poeple in the mouth. They don't have an identity.
Lloyd, colorado 04:17 PM ET
Jeff Fisher should be coach of the year ...
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Tony Sparano, Mike Smith, John Harbaugh ... those are the names in my discussion.
Monty, Dallas 04:18 PM ET
Who would you take as your QB right now, Big Ben, Drew Brees, or Romo?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Drew Brees! I can't believe I have to answer that question.
Mike D, New Castle, PA 04:21 PM ET
Sterling, as a great former wide reciever, where do you feel that Troy Polamalu stacks up against some of the great safeties that you faced?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Very well. I would have loved to play against him. He is a run-stopper, great in coverage ... and he does it at a high level week-in and week-out. He's more than just a Pro Bowler.
Brian, Ottawa 04:22 PM ET
which defensive player have you been really impressed with?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
I'm impressed with Nnamdi Asomugha. I don't think you can name just one. I'm impressed with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. I'm impressed with Ed Reed. How is he always around the ball from the free safety spot. I'm impressed with how Bob Sanders can change the game when he plays. I'm impressed with Troy Polamalu and his athleticism.
I'm not just impressed with one guy.
Brian, Ottawa 04:25 PM ET
Who is the best DE in the game?
Sterling Sharpe, NFL.com
Dwight Freeney. Sticking with him.
That's where we'll stop today. Great questions people. That's why I stayed late. Love it. Be sure to watch Playbook to get the inside scoop on some of today's topics.
We'll catch you again in two weeks.
