Week 16 Morning Aftermath: Cowboys still have much to prove
Posted by Mike Florio PFT
Today is the anniversary of the last time that the Cowboys won a playoff game.
I remember that day well. It was the night before Florio Jr.'s baptism when the Cowboys beat the Vikings, 40-15.
Thirteen years later, that three-month-old baby is only three inches shorter than me, and the Cowboys have yet to win another game beyond Week 17.
To their credit, the December swoon has ended, via back-to-back road wins against the Saints and the Redskins. But the Cowboys won't regain full "how 'bout them?" status until winning at least one game in the NFL's annual tournament.
And the postseason pressure for the Cowboys will be immense and growing until this franchise wins again in the playoffs.
Surely, Wade Phillips knows that his return in 2010 hinges on making that happen. As owner Jerry Jones adroitly put it in an interview with NBC's Bob Costas that aired last night, "There's nothing in me right now that wants to make a coaching change. That thinks we need to make a coaching change. I want that feeling ratified by some success, and we're at the cusp maybe of being able to have it."
In other words, if the Cowboys lose in the playoffs, Phillips likely won't be back.
And the pressure will be even greater the next time the Cowboys qualify for the postseason.....

So Mike Florio's son was only three months old when the Cowboys last won a playoff game. Do you suppose the senior Florio was even alive the last time the Eagles won an NFL championship?
