all i can say is i hope we get some late returns next season on the 2009 draft cuz outside of our 2nd kicker, who can't handle field goals, we got nothing to show for 12 draft picks. looks like those couple of sacks were the anomalies i thought they were from the start. as evidenced by spencer's recent play it is too soon to call the draft a bust but i sure would of liked to see some contributions start before the playoff run (if there is one)
Butler fails to impress Gerry Fraley/Reporter
Rookie outside linebacker Victor Butler received extended playing time in Saturday's win at New Orleans. To say he failed to impress would be an understatement.
"Victor played, but he didn't have a real great game,'' coach Wade Phillips said.
For Phillips, who puts a positive spin on nearly everything, that amounts to a body-slam

I'm not impressed with last year's draft. Now, that Buelher couldn't replace Nick Folk.
Why did we draft Buehler again? He's just a kickoff specialist. Nuttin' more.
If Siusham is so good. Why did "The Mastermind" cut him in the first place?

Butler didn't have a good game....what did he allow to happen. Three points the first half by the Saints. The second half, mainly saw DeMarcus Ware on the field? Ware showed up well afterwards...and with FRESH legs. Then there are the three sacks by Butler, in limited time. No, he has shown up, and not just against the top offensive team in the NFL.
The better of the two drafted 'rook's at OLB, Brandon Williams, is on IR. He'll be back in the mix next year...as will the RT Brewster.
Michael Hamlin has shown enough to project well at safety, and is a coverage type of player.
One has to temper immediacy of show, by the fact that 'first' year starters, such as Spencer, Jenkins, and Austin have done so well to present. That means any role by 'rooks' will tend to be diminised in product...they won't be seeing the carpet nearly enough to bring on the great ratings. Here, although, Free has stood up and been reliable and projects quite nicely now.
Were you by chance noticing the prominent and third down plays by both Ogletree and Phillips against New Orleans? They both do well blocking also...and then there was Ball, who was only a seventh rounder, just like Jay Ratliff...maybe being a fourth rounder wasn't too bad for Buehler, Scandrick, or Marion Barber as well. Then there is Tashard Choice who came in the fourth as well. All of those since the arrival of Wade Phillips. No, give this group a little while to prove direction, as they have acquired a Championship quality early in their careers, and this is important: They have learned to make plays!

Suisham was the 'whipping boy' for Snyder and his incoming hechman in management. Just as when he arrived, he is kiling the careers of the 'small' players to send message of 'respect' through the franchise? If the missed kicks had occurred during any but a Cowboy game, Suisham would still be a Redskin. That stinks, if you ask me!!

cc i appreciate those points, and i am grateful for each of the success's you mention. i alluded to that when i expressed that it is too soon to say bust, but with all the celebrating of potential within the current class and the value of past draft picks (not mentioning the turds incidentally, but that is besides the point), you sidetracked from my focus which was that THIS YEARS DRAFT HAS YIELDED NOTHING TO BENEFIT A POSSIBLE PLAYOFF RUN!
for the record, i am hopeful but as yet not as impressed with Butler as you. as i have said before, he previously had benefit of playing without having to think about the run. freshness issues, vis-à-vis his insertion versus competition that had already played 3 1/2 quarters aside, he has yet to show he can accomplish anything while having to play the run and pass equally. even wade, who sugar coats EVERYTHING, said he played poorly this week. i am just saying.
