That is a depressing title. While this team does have a mathematical shot at making the play-offs, the simple truth is the path ahead looks like at least two losses and maybe the blitzkrieg.
So 8 months until training camp. A lot can happen in those months to change what we know and where we are.
But there is a dark cloud on the horizon that threatens to rain on this team for years to come.
Jerry Jones still holds the reins of this team firmly in his skeleton-like grip.
Over the years I have gone from the type of fan that sees sunshine in even the worst losses to someone who evaluates each player on their merits and shortcomings. Several sites find my brand of assessment to be too negative.
I simply call them as I see them.
This team has:
Ware - truly a winner in his own right.
Witten - the best tight end in the game
Rat - a man playing out of position but thriving
Jenkins - greatness blossoming before our eyes
Romo - while I have railed on him, he has done what I asked. Improve his turnover touchdown ration and make good decisions.
Choice - I believe this is a player that has been given no chance to shine and could be a real stud if allowed.
Austin - A second tier player as yet. His big games come against weak sisters, but he shows promise.
Every other player on this team is inconsistent, undisciplined and doesn't give 100% all the time.
Newman needs to move to the slot and benched the next time he takes a bad angle to make a game changing play and gives up a touchdown.
Scandrick needs to learn his position.
While Sensabaugh has made some plays, I think just about any player on this team that has played safety needs to go down the road except for Mike Hamlin, since he hasn't truly had time to show he is just like them.
Thanks Jerry for looking at Darren Sharper and his nearing the pick-six record and passing on him.
Flo needs to go to the bench. Two real stud linemen need to be added to this team.
Hurd needs to go. Find someone like Welker and move Crayton to the bench and make him earn his keep.
Romo and Roy Williams need to be roommates during the off-season.
A new head coach, OC, and DC need to be hired and not one position needs to be filled with anyone whose last name is Garrett or Phillips.
Finally Jerry Jones needs to understand he is the problem and not the solution.
Fat freakin' chance.
It is eight months until training camp. But that doesn't mean squat since we will still be saddled with Jones making decisions.
The real crying shame is the Grim Reaper isn't a Cowboy fan with Jerry's home address. (That was tongue firmly in cheek. NO letters to the editor, please.)
