David Moore:
It's good to be here with everybody. I've recovered from yesterday's offensive orgy and I'm ready to go. Monday November 23, 2009 1:35 David Moore

[Comment From JasonJason: ]
Any word on the status of Mike Jenkins? Monday November 23, 2009 1:36 Jason
1:37
David Moore:
Myself and Todd Archer caught up with Jenkins outside the lockerroom today. He said he feels fine and will be ready to go Thursday. In trying to protect his bicep, which he hurt against Green Bay, he hit his head on the tackle and was momentarily shaken up. Monday November 23, 2009 1:37 David Moore

[Comment From LDVFootballLDVFootball: ]
What do you think is "off" with the offense? Monday November 23, 2009 1:37 LDVFootball
1:41
David Moore:
Here are some numbers that give an indication of what's wrong. The Cowboys have converted just 6-of-23 third down plays over the last two games. That's 26.1 percent. Compare that to what happened during the four-game winning streak when the team converted 47.2 percent of its third down attempts, and you get an idea.
Quarterback Tony Romo has also been inconsistent hooking up with his wide receivers. He has completed eight of the 16 passes he has thrown to Miles Austin over the last two games and just five of 11 passes he's thrown in Roy Williams direction. Monday November 23, 2009 1:41 David Moore

[Comment From CharlesCharles: ]
Did Garret get too far away from the pass this game Monday November 23, 2009 1:41 Charles
1:43
David Moore:
I don't think he got too far away from the pass. I think the passing game was off. Now, you can argue the passing game was off because so much emphasis was placed on the run in the days leading up to the Washington game, but I'm not sure that flies.
The bottom line is this: no matter how well you run the ball, you're not going to score a lot of points unless you make plays in the passing game. Monday November 23, 2009 1:43 David Moore
1:44
[Comment From Roy WRoy W: ]
Yesterday I said I was just happy with a win, even though I had no catches. With a $45 million contract, shouldn't I be? This is better than working. Monday November 23, 2009 1:44 Roy W
1:46
David Moore:
Glad you could sneak out of your meeting to join us, Roy.
But this sure doesn't sound like you. For one thing, I know no matter how much money you make, you want to perform at peak level. Who wouldn't? Come to think of it, it can't be you because the coaching staff and players praise your work ethic. Monday November 23, 2009 1:46 David Moore
1:46
[Comment From TexAgsTexAgs: ]
How about Martellus? How much of that was so much attention paid to other recievers give him better coverage options and how much was Romo trusting him. The one recetption in tight coverage had a lot of trust from Romo written all over it, which is surprising with Bennett. Monday November 23, 2009 1:46 TexAgs
1:49
David Moore:
The middle was open for Bennett and he came through with his best overall game of the season. Most of the focus has been on the sporadic production of Roy Williams. But if you go back to training camp, the inability of Romo and Bennett to connect is more puzzling, given Bennett came up with a spectacular play nearly every practice.
Bennett's performance against the Redskins certainly got him back on Romo's radar screen. Monday November 23, 2009 1:49 David Moore
1:50
[Comment From JoelJoel: ]
Seriously, why is it not obvious to all that Jason Garrett is not difficult to figure out? For the past few seasons, defenses have simply figured out the Cowboys' offense mid-season and it has been downhill from there . . Monday November 23, 2009 1:50 Joel
1:51
David Moore:
It's hard to argue with you off the last two games. Let's see if this continues. If it does, there may be something to what you say. But I don't think two games is a large enough sample. Monday November 23, 2009 1:51 David Moore

I think Ogletree will continue to be used the way he is right now _ as a fifth receiver who might get the ball on some wide receiver screens if the defense allows. I don't believe you will see his role in the offense grow this season. Monday November 23, 2009 1:55 David Moore

It didn't seem to impact them. This year's team doesn't just count about accountability and doing the little things to get better. They do it. This team is grounded. If it fails, it won't be due to attitude. Monday November 23, 2009 1:56 David Moore

It seems that Folk lost something after he had his hip surgery. Any chance they are losing faith in him? Monday November 23, 2009 1:56 Sam
1:59
David Moore:
Wade Phillips said he hasn't lost confidence in Folk, but how can you not? He's already missed five field goals, which equals his number of misses as a rookie.
The thing is he continues to kick the ball good in practice. He has one miss right, another miss left, so there's not a technique they can point to that's off. There have also been issues with the hold on two of his misses.
The key for Folk is that this doens't impact his confidence. If it does, then he is in trouble. Monday November 23, 2009 1:59 David Moore

2:07
David Moore:
The Cowboys third down defense has slipped the past two games. That will be a point of emphasis in practice this week. But blaming it all on Carpenter is a convenient excuse, and from what the coaches and players tell me, not an accurate one. Can he be better? Sure. But the Cowboys are comfortable with how he's performing in the nickel. Monday November 23, 2009 2:07 David Moore

[Comment From TexAgsTexAgs: ]
It seems like when this offense is at its best is when it forces its will on the defense. However, the last two weeks it seems that are playing too muc reaction to the defense and therefore losing thier identity. Monday November 23, 2009 2:07 TexAgs
2:10
David Moore:
I understand what you're saying, but I'd argue they did impose their will on the Washington defense with their running game. They just didn't score.
All good offenses are able to do both _ impose their will at key moments or take what the defense gives them. It's clear by the last two games that the Cowboys offense doens't belong in this group at the moment. Monday November 23, 2009 2:10 David Moore

It would make sense. It would also fit what the Cowboys said they wanted to do with Jones heading into the season, which was throw him the ball more. If the offense continues to struggle, you may see that more from time to time. He was certainly outside of the pocket on the biggest offensive play of Sunday's win. Monday November 23, 2009 2:13 David Moore

[Comment From JoeJoe: ]
Why do you think Dallas gets hammered more for a win, than Cincy or Pittsburg get for losing? With all the posts, and commentary yesterday you would think everyone forgets how nasty the NFC East is>>>> Monday November 23, 2009 2:13 Joe
2:15
David Moore:
Scoring only seven points has a lot to do with it, especially against a Washington team that is struggling.
That being said, I can tell you Cincy and Pittsburgh are getting hammered by posts and commentaries for what happened to them yesterday. My guess is you just notice it more with the Cowboys because you're here and around it all the time. Monday November 23, 2009 2:15 David Moore

I know it's early (well not really) but we have 6 more games, 5 after playing Oakland..do you think Jason Garret have to improve this offense to save his job? Monday November 23, 2009 2:15 gcoop
2:16
David Moore:
I think if this offense continues to score only seven points a game not only will Garrett's job be in danger, but the Cowboys will be in danger of a monumental collapse that will have them miss the playoffs. Monday November 23, 2009 2:16 David Moore

The offensive game plan doesn't appear to be very flexible. The offense doesn't seem to adjust to work against what the other defense is doing nor does it seem to try things that will make the other defense adjust. Monday November 23, 2009 2:17 Old Fan
2:19
David Moore:
That wasn't an issue during the winning streak. It has been the last two games. I would argue the game plan would have appeared much more flexible yesterday if the Cowboys had any sort of success on third down. That's crippling this offense at the moment. Monday November 23, 2009 2:19 David Moore

[Comment From BillyBilly: ]

Ball will start again. The Cowboys felt he gave them a solid performance. Monday November 23, 2009 2:21 David Moore

[Comment From JohnJohn: ]
What is your take on the effectivness of Doug Free and the rest of the O-Line? Monday November 23, 2009 2:21 John
2:22
David Moore:
By the account of his teammates and coaches, Free did a good job. He did make a few mistakes, but nothing that led to a big loss or the inability to make a big play. Monday November 23, 2009 2:22 David Moore
2:22
[Comment From mr brusselsmr brussels: ]
Watching the game from across the pond, it looked like the Cowboys rarely ran sets with more than two WRs. Was that in an effort to add protection to help Doug Free, was it to help the ground game, or am I completely off? Monday November 23, 2009 2:22 mr brussels
2:23
David Moore:
You're right. The Cowboys didn't use a lot of multiple receiver sets yesterday. And yes, they kept Jason Witten on the line a little longer than usual early in the game to help Free.
But overall, the emphasis was to run the ball yesterday. That's why you saw fewer three receiver sets than in some past games. Monday November 23, 2009 2:23 David Moore
2:24
[Comment From ScottScott: ]
Was garrett trying to prove something to everyone that wanted to run the ball like Jerry that these are the results of sticking with the run too long? Monday November 23, 2009 2:24 Scott
2:25
David Moore:
I think Garrett wanted to prove this team could run the ball. But he would be foolish to stick with the run at the expense of scoring points _ and winning _ just to prove a point to everyone who says the Cowboys should run more. Monday November 23, 2009 2:25 David Moore
2:25
[Comment From Wes OhioWes Ohio: ]
Isnt the big problem that the wr's are getting jammed and not creating separation now that the corners are playing them tight bump and run. What can the wr's do to get clean breaks and more separation? Monday November 23, 2009 2:25 Wes Ohio
2:28
David Moore:
That's a legitimate point. But so is this: Roy Williams had 105 yards receiving against Green Bay and came back with none against Washington. Are the Redskins corners that much better, or are there some unresolved issues as it applies to timing in the passing game?
But back to your original point. One thing the Cowboys can do is to put their receivers in motion more. Williams has three touchdown receptions this season, and two of them came when he was in motion. Monday November 23, 2009 2:28 David Moore
2:29
[Comment From JasonJason: ]
Why aren't we seeing more of Sam Hurd out there during games? If I remember, T.O. was talking up Sam like the next coming of himself. Monday November 23, 2009 2:29 Jason
2:29
David Moore:
The Cowboys have enough problems right now getting the ball to their two starting wide receivers. I don't know that throwing another into the mix will help. Monday November 23, 2009 2:29 David Moore
2:30
[Comment From lets go pokeslets go pokes: ]
I heard Jerry wanted Felix Jones to play more but why was Choice left out? After his play last season and this one you would think he would have some kind of playing time. Monday November 23, 2009 2:30 lets go pokes
2:32
David Moore:
Marion Barber ran the ball 20 times and Jones had 10 carries. That doesn't leave much room for Choice to carry the ball unless you want to completely abandon the pass.
Yesterday, that might not have been such a bad idea. But I digress.
If you get three backs involved on a consistent basis, you're passing game will surely suffer. There just aren't enough opportunities in a normal game to make that work. Monday November 23, 2009 2:32 David Moore
2:32
[Comment From PatrickPatrick: ]
Given Romo's struggles after his injury, why not put in Kitna for a series or two and see if he can get something going? Monday November 23, 2009 2:32 Patrick
2:33
David Moore:
If Romo is healthy enough to play, he should play. He is this team's quarterback. If they are to end their playoff victory drought this season, it will be because Romo is the starting quarterback, not Kitna. Monday November 23, 2009 2:33 David Moore
2:34
[Comment From BrecBrec: ]
How long before Tashard Choice starts getting grumpy sitting on the bench all game even though whenever he's in the game, something good tends to happen? Monday November 23, 2009 2:34 Brec
2:36
David Moore:
Choice has a good attitude about this and respects Barber and Jones. That helps. Still, at his age and with his ability, I can't imagine he will settle for this role for too long. Monday November 23, 2009 2:36 David Moore
2:36
[Comment From JasonJason: ]
Would it be such a horrible thing to consider starting Jones and let Barber be the clean up guy again? Monday November 23, 2009 2:36 Jason
2:36
David Moore:
It wouldn't be horrible, but the Cowboys really like the way Barber pounds a defense to open and close the game. They have no intention of changing. Monday November 23, 2009 2:36 David Moore
2:37

David Moore:
Romo told the coaching staff Monday that his back was feeling much better. It's hard to quantify what impact it did have on his performance, but I think it's fair to say it did have a negative effect. Monday November 23, 2009 2:38 David Moore

[Comment From ZachZach: ]

David Moore:
Tony Romo. Who else? Monday November 23, 2009 2:39 David Moore
2:40
David Moore:
Well, it looks like our time is up. For those questions I didn't get to today, I apologize. I'll try to make it up to you next time.
Of course, some would argue you might be better off without my answers.
Good bye.

Why do you think Dallas gets hammered more for a win, than Cincy or Pittsburg get for losing? With all the posts, and commentary yesterday you would think everyone forgets how nasty the NFC East is>>>> Monday November 23, 2009 2:13 Joe

What is your take on the effectivness of Doug Free and the rest of the O-Line? Monday November 23, 2009 2:21 John
2:22

By the account of his teammates and coaches, Free did a good job. He did make a few mistakes, but nothing that led to a big loss or the inability to make a big play. Monday November 23, 2009 2:22 David Moore

David Moore:
If Romo is healthy enough to play, he should play. He is this team's quarterback. If they are to end their playoff victory drought this season, it will be because Romo is the starting quarterback, not Kitna. Monday November 23, 2009 2:33 David Moore
