J.Ellis Blog:Portis Out, Betts Still A Threat
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LINK
Posted by jellis at 11/19/2009 5:16 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com The Washington Redskins who come in here on Sunday will look a little different than the team we're used to seeing, with both Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis ruled out for Sunday.
Portis has been the biggest element of the Redskins offense since coming over from Denver in the heads-up trade that included Champ Bailey, but Washington has had a good back behind in for some time in Ladell Betts.
And actually the Redskins have done a little bit better on the ground since Betts took over after Portias suffered a concussion two games ago. Portis was averaging 4.0 yards per carry for the season, while Betts has averaged nearly 4.5, with a touchdown in both games. He had a 114-yard day in the Redskins win over Denver last week.
"Those guys are blocking for Betts," Bradie James said. "I don't know what happened with Portis, but you can tell. Anytime you see an offensive line, when they rush for six or seven yards and they get up excited, you know that they're blocking for the running back."
Even without their franchise rusher, the Cowboys know moving the ball on the ground will be a big emphasis for Washington on Sunday.
"I know they've had a lot of change here and there," James said. "But the offensive line has been the same as far as coaching, and the running game has been the same." __________________
