At No. 22, Cowboys have a lot of options

My favorite columns of the year are on the NFL Draft. I'm just one of those draft aficionados who can't get enough coverage.
I know I'm not alone. I'm searching Web sites like crazy right now reading mock drafts.
The Cowboys have the 22nd pick in the first round.
I think the club needs to draft a wide receiver, offensive tackle or look to the nose-tackle position.
Here are my takes on the experts' picks for the Cowboys:
Pat Kirwan of nfl.com: Michael Griffin, safety, Texas. His ability to play some cornerback would make him great in nickel and dime packages. I'm always big on players who have won a national title in college.
SI.com: Brandon Meriweather, safety, Miami. The Cowboys have done well with guys from the U. But given the choice, I'd rather have Griffin because of his ability to excel on special teams and block punts.
Profootballtalk.com: Aaron Sears, offensive lineman, Tennessee. Flozell Adams is an unrestricted free agent next year. Why sink the money in him if you can develop your own next left tackle and keep costs down? Problem with the Sears pick is nobody else has him listed in a first-round mock... and he's listed as a guard.
Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram, Dewayne Bowe, wide receiver, LSU. I'm all about the Cowboys looking toward the 2008 season. Terry Glenn and T.O. won't be Cowboys in two years. The Eagles are kings of drafting players and working them into their system before they become starters.
Tom Curran of nbcsports.com: Tanard Jackson, defensive back, Syracuse. Just not worth the 22nd pick. Jackson would be a solid second-round choice. He can play safety or corner.
Mel Kiper of espn.com: Robert Meachem, wide receiver, Tennessee. The Tulsa native led the SEC in touchdowns as a junior (11). The Cowboys took Alvin Harper in 1991 from old Rocky Top and did well.
Foxsports.com: Brandon Meriweather, safety, Miami. I didn't mention this before, but he is a converted corner. Aaron Glenn is 63 years old and can't play the nickel forever.
I think the Cowboys are in a great spot to trade down and pick up an extra first-day pick.
If they want to go wide receiver in the first round, they can find some quality guys by moving down three or four spots.
Since safety Ken Hamlin got a one-year deal, it would be wise to stay at 22 to select a free safety and groom him.
