I. I'll say this for Marion Barber. He's consistent. No not with his legs, with his mouth. He doesn't speak to any media. He doesn't yak it up with the local beat reporters and he doesn't talk to the big-time networks. In chatting with Cowboys pr czar Rich Dalrymple last week, he reminded that Barber hasn't talked to a single network reporter. After his performance against the Redskins, you can be sure that NBC wanted Andrea Kremer to interview Barber on the field. Instead, she was left with Tony Romo and Jay Ratliff.
II. Ratliff can credit having his photo nailed to the bizarre NBC horse trailer alongside Barber's photo to the fact he is a willing talker.
III. The closest Cowboys fans may come to hearing from Barber this season may wind up being when they heard him playing the piano on HBO's Hard Knocks. Remember, Marion "The Solitarian" was alone in his apartment playing, while his neighbor T.O. was having a party.
IV. I'm guessing offensive tackle Flozell Adams isn't looking forward to the Cowboys next Sunday Night Football appearance against the Giants on Dec. 14. Twice, John Madden took him to task for his silly penalties. "Gosh darn it, he just has too many penalties," Madden said.
V. That's the flip side to the days Madden gushed over Larry Allen's every move. When that Cowboys offensive lineman is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame he should have Madden introduce him. No one did more to boost Allen's career than Madden.
VI. Remember when Al Michaels and John Madden were searching for a word that is the opposite of "urgency" as in "the Cowboys were playing with a sense of urgency." How come they didn't think of "complacency?"
VII. Senior moment: Play of Redskins kick returner Rock Cartwright reminded of a time when the Cartwright clan _ Ben, Adam, Hoss and Little Joe _ dominated NBC's Sunday night schedule. Now that's a very weird name association. Isn't it?
VIII. When the Cowboys offense put up back-to-back penalties midway through the third quarter _ an illegal procedure and a false start _ Madden mentioned he didn't think they were in sync. Then he theorized that Romo's return and the bye week might be the causes. Obviously, Madden didn't study the Cowboys before the bye when Brad Johnson was leading the offense. They were out of sync then, too. Big time.
IX. When Michaels compared Marion Barber to Brad Lidge, I was thinking that's either broadcasting genius or he was wandering way off base. Lidge is the Philadelphia Phillies closer. Hey Al: Five percent of the homes in Dallas-Fort Worth watched the World Series. You might as well have made an analogy to an English Premier League soccer player.
X. Martellus Bennett catches the game-winning touchdown and all I can think of is Cowboys tight ends coach John Garrett lecturing him through out Hard Knocks: "High and tight Martellus, high and tight." Garrett droned again and again. He wanted Bennett to remember whenever he might catch the ball he had to keep it "high and tight" so it wouldn't get swatted out of his hands. Obviously, Bennett remembered Sunday night.
