I was a dog-face for twenty-three years, from Viet Nam through Desert Storm... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was given to my Wife prior to my Dad's passing. He got it for her. Dad took 184 depth charges in the 'turkey shoot' and into the Sea of Japan...
SOLDIER
I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness...should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; Felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love. I have cried, pained, and hoped.... but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best Forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was..... a Soldier.
A prayer of thanks to each and everyone who served...no matter where and how.

My Dad served in Korea and was seriously wounded there. Luckily frozen ground saved his life from that landmine. I have cousins who have served! Dallas at 5-4 means nothing compared to what our Brave men & women do everyday to keep our liberties safe! I salute them all for their courage and sacrifice!

I was in the Navy in the mid-70s (didn't do anything though). My dad was in during the Korean War and took part in the landing at Inchon (as well as the retreat from there). I have an uncle who was also in the Korean War and was part of Army Intelligence but he was a field guy who went into tunnels and had a number of hand-to-hand fights. He told me that he killed several people with his commando knife! Lots of great stories. My son-in-law is getting ready to head back to Iraq for a 2nd tour there. He is an Army medic and was loaned to the Marines for the battle of Falujah. He is talked about in a book by an Army doctor called "On Call In Hell". Chapter 3 talks about my son-in-law. He volunteered for both tours. It is tough on my daughter and our grandkids but I've got nothing but respect for that young man. Some of you may know a long time Cowboys fan named Skip. After 911 his son re-enlisted at 33 and went out for the Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and made it! Went to Iraq and his humvee hit a bomb. It literally blew his butt off and he has had dozens of surgeries to repair his body over the last few years. Pray that he will continue to improve and heal. God bless all of our great veterans. Thank you for your sacrifice and willingness to fight to maintain our freedom.

Here Here, and thank you CC for that tribute. As much as people set around and complain about how bad they have it today, they live in luxury compared to what they would have if not for the brave men and women that sacrificed their lives for this country.

As a kid I grew up watching the Vietnam war on TV. My father served in the air force for 24 yrs and retired in 77. I'll never forget how our soldiers were treated coming back home. The odd thing was It took a Rambo Movie "first blood" before the public finally realized our grave mistake on how we treated our soldiers. We must NEVER let that happen again. I promised myself then that I would never allow that scenario to happen again as long as I have a voice to speak with or a hand to write a note. I love my country and the men and women in uniform that protect her. God bless America! Prossman
