Adams returns to BrownsComment Email Print Share By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com Archive With starting safety Sean Jones testing the free-agent market and likely to leave for another team, the Cleveland Browns have secured a possible replacement.
The team has signed safety Mike Adams, an unrestricted free agent who played the past two seasons with the Browns, to a three-year contract. Financial details were not divulged.
Adams, 27, is a five-year veteran with 23 starts in 67 appearances. He started five games for Cleveland in 2008, but spent most of the season as the team's third safety. Adams began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with San Francisco in 2004.
"Mike Adams possesses the characteristics we believe in and brings versatility to the backend of the defense," Browns general manager George Kokinis said in a statement. "We are pleased he is coming back to Cleveland."
For his career, the former Delaware star has 220 tackles, two sacks and seven interceptions. He is expected to challenge for a starting job in 2009, particularly if Jones departs as expected.
