DMN Blog: Precendent for Jerry Jones trying to plug leaks

Cowboys news and nuggets are still a blur these days even after the season ended a month ago. Funniest item I've seen lately, courtesy of ESPN, I believe, is that Jerry Jones is trying to plug up the leaks that translate into "sources" on stories out of Valley Ranch.
Well, if ESPN's sources are leaking that info, Jones' attempt obviously ain't working.
That reminds of the early 1980s when a group of young, often disgruntled Cowboys, would leak info like sieves to the beat writers. Things got so bad that Tom Landry called a team meeting to specifically address the issue.
You can probably guess the rest of the story. About 30 minutes after the meeting broke up, a player called a SportsDay reporter seated right next to me in the newsroom to tell him about the meeting that emphasized not leaking info to the media. It was a front page headline the next day. Today, by the way, that player has settled in nicely as an NFL assistant coach.

A 'Bunker Mentality' situation at Valley Ranch does not bode well for the organization. A 'Disinformation' agenda leads to more chaos. An 'OZ' effect developes, and sooner or later the 'WIZZARD' is exposed.
